Finding Emotional Balance at Home with Your Child

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

The following tips are recommendations us here at HOP (Harmony Online Preschool) have found to be most effective when it comes to creating emotional balance and regulation at home.

Tip #1 - Prep

Prep a toddler-friendly environment that allows children to explore safely and handle tasks on their own. Also, tell your child prior to transitioning to new tasks to emotionally prepare them.

Tip #2 - Value and Connection

Above toys, screens and other activities, children value time, attention and connection with loving parents more than anything. Your presence matters most! Give them intentional 1:1 time with each parent (if possible).

Tip #3 - Embrace

Encourage and allow your child to settle matters, struggle and find solutions on their own to empower them and reduce sibling rivalry.

Tip #4 - Learn and Accept

Learn your child's temperament and accept it instead of trying to change or conform them to an ideal you may have had.

Tip #5 - Gentleness

Anger is a common emotion that comes up in parenting and in children. Parents must find a way to work through their own anger issues and respond with loving kindness to help dissipate anger in your child.

Reflection: Heal Thy Self (Healthy Self)

Healthy parenting requires you to revisit your childhood and learn how your past affects and informs you and your parenting today.
